Kier submits plans for mental health clinic on behalf of Mersey Care NHS Trust

Kier Construction has submitted a planning application for a £60m mental health hospital near Liverpool on behalf of Mersey Care NHS Trust.

A planning application for a single-storey 123-bed mental health inpatient facility to be built in Maghull was submitted to Sefton Council yesterday.

If approved, the 11,000 sq m development will replace the current 56-bed Scott Clinic facility, which is around thirty years old and no longer meets the Trust’s requirements.

The development will be split over eight wards and therapy rooms and social spaces will also be created.

The application was made by architect IBI Group on behalf of Kier.

WSP PB is supplying civil and structural engineering services.

If planning permission is given, Kier could begin by April 2017.

According to construction intelligence provider Glenigan, Kier was appointed as main contractor for the job in August.

The contractor is going head to head with five other contractors for a new NHS hospital development programme.

Kier, Skanska and Vinci have all been selected with joint venture partners by South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust in the first stage of its Estate Modernisation Programme.

Sir Robert McAlpine and Mace have also qualified with JV partners, while Lendlease is bidding alone.

The programme includes the construction of two hospitals as well as new community services, homes and parkland.
